How does it work and who is it for?
Here at Zephyr’s we are pleased to be running a brand new monthly evening session. Focusing on creativity and working with clay in a small and supportive group environment, this therapeutic activity supports bereaved parents touched by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby or child. You do not not need any previous experience of working with clay to attend or take part.

Jointly hosted by Rachael (one of our counsellors) and by Zeph’s Dad Martin, (who also runs our woodwork sessions) these sessions are initially running on the third Tuesday of every month from April – October (with a break in August for the summer)
“Clay is such a rich and tactile material, malleable and natural, it is of the earth. Working with our sense of touch, we might make beautiful and wondrous creations that we wish to keep, or we might make items and objects that express our most challenging feelings of grief, that we decide to purposefully squash or shatter, and through that exploring how we feel. Working with clay can be relaxing, calming, and can help reduce stress, and in this group forum can also give us time to be with others without the pressure to feel we have to talk. So much can be expressed by working with our hands.“
You are welcome to come along as frequently as ‘feels right’, whether that means just once, or on a more regular basis. All of Zephyr’s activities are free to attend, but to keep our group numbers manageable we do require booking in advance through Eventbrite.
When and where?
We will be meeting on the third Tuesday of the month, between 7pm – 9pm. The address is By Our Hands Workshop, 42 Freckingham Street, Sneinton Market, NG1 1DQ. If you need help finding us, read more here. You can call us on 07915 995532 on the day of the session if you need to be in touch.
What is helpful to know before attending?
As Rachael is one of our counsellors here at Zephyr’s, if you are having (or have previously had) 1-2-1 counselling support from Rachael, please feel welcome to discuss this further with us if you need to. We are mindful that this session is open to all who wish to attend, soThese sessions will be therapeutic, but in no way are they therapy.
This is a small and supportive group activity, and there is no expectation of experience of working with clay previously required. If you create items to keep, these may be fired in a kiln off-site and available at a later session. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy, and bring an apron if you wish. These evenings will be relaxed and informal, with tea and warm drinks to start.

Please note these sessions are for bereaved adults only, and are on offer for those who are bereaved through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby or child. If you are looking for support on a 1-2-1 basis, please make an enquiry about our counselling service here.
